To Our Supporters:
I hope you and your loved ones have been staying well during this challenging time. I wanted to give you a brief update on the agency as the province continues to lift restrictions.
We completed the school year with staff doing everything they could to reach clients remotely. We were able to finish the WiseGuyz and Girls Programs online and we had several very well attended Relationships and Sexual Health Education online bookings. Our Training Centre successfully adapted programming to be able to offer workshops remotely and we utilized social media to connect with clients and community. I am so proud of the way our staff has creatively and quickly adapted the way they work to connect with those we serve.
A highlight this summer was hosting Camp fYrefly On the Web with 50 LGBTQ2S+ youth from across Southern Alberta. We know how isolated many of them had been during this pandemic, and it was rewarding to see our staff and volunteers provide such a meaningful online experience, complete with incredible workshops, mentorship, and care packages delivered to doorsteps of Camp participants.
Our office re-opened on July 6th with strict health and safety protocols in place. We have limited staff in the office each day, and we are accepting clients by appointment only. We have now started to see some counselling clients in person and our STI testing services in partnership with SafeWorks are back up and running. As a client centred organization, we are happy to have struck a balance to ensure that everyone who comes into the office follows COVID guidelines and continuing to offer very important services for the individuals and communities we serve.
While Pride 2020 has to look quite different this year, we are thrilled to be working with some great partners to keep the Pride alive in creative ways:
- Pride in a Box is now on sale! This is a great initiative with Mike’s Bloggity Blog and TD that supports our LGBTQ2S+ initiatives. Get yours here.
- Village Ice Cream will be selling Limited Edition Villager Pride Ice Cream Sandwiches from August 28 – September 5. For each sandwich sold, they will donate $1 to Centre for Sexuality. They will also sell pride stickers, of which all proceeds will go to Centre for Sexuality as well. Don’t forget to include some ice cream in your Pride celebration!
- We are also thrilled that we’ll be continuing our Pride Brunch tradition in support of Camp fYrefly – from the comfort of your home! We are thrilled to be partnering with local restaurants as well. Get your tickets and find out more here.
Check out our social media for other exciting initiatives that we will be part of during Pride 2020.
As we move into the fall, we will continue to find innovative ways to reach clients and connect with communities. As always, we are grateful for the support of individual supporters and our communities. We know that the pandemic has had an impact on every single person. Please know we are thinking of you and your family during this time. Reach out if we can assist you or check in with us to find the resources that you need.
Thank you again for your unwavering support of the Centre. I look forward to updating you in the coming weeks.
Sincerely,
Pam Krause
